Finding
Dory June
23, 2016
I went to
the late show to see Finding Dory with my 20 year old daughter the other night.
I thought the theatre would be empty being a school night and the late show. I
was wrong. The theatre was filled with young couples, many people in their late
teens and early twenties and even a group of young guys. It is an adorable
animation with bright colors and charming characters.
The basic
plot is Dory remembering bits and pieces of her childhood and setting out on an
adventure to find her parents. She has several mishaps along the way and we get
to see some of our favorite characters from the previous movie and meet some
new ones as well. The real story is the one of someone with a disability
overcoming their shortcomings or the obstacles in their way and learning how to
cope and compensate in order to reach their goal. Having worked with people
with mental health and other disabilities for the past six years I have seen these
things over and over with different people, different roadblocks and different
goals and it is amazing to see what someone can do with determination and a
good support team. This movie teaches us to go for what we want despite the obstacles
in our way.
I think
this will be a great movie for children and if they were too young to see the
first movie, Finding Nemo, have them watch it first and make it a fun outing
for the whole family. I always loved finding moments to have serious
conversations with my child and this movie offers one of those opportunities.
Enjoy!
